Police are investigating after a Trenton man was fatally shot in a rural section of Hamilton Township on Christmas Eve, the Atlantic County prosecutor's office announced.
Officers responded to a 911 call with a report of gunfire at Ocean Heights Avenue near the intersection of Salma Terrace. At the scene, police found 25-year-old Marquis T. Smith suffering from gunshot wounds.
Smith was transported to the Mainland Division of Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled Saturday by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office.
Investigators with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Township of Hamilton Police Department Detective Bureau have not yet identified any suspects in the case. There is no immediate threat to the public, officials said.
