Turns out there's more than five best types of beach people

It’s been less than 24 hours since I employed virtual signaling to shame folks into realizing it’s OK to focus on positive beach behavior instead of dwelling on the negative.

I am pleased to announce that one response to the “Who are the best kind of people to be around on the beach?” query turned into three responses with mere minutes of Monday’s post going live.

As such, five nominations have become 15! With no further ado, here’s what readers Anita L. and Marion P. had to say about the best types of people to be around on the beach:

Anita L.:

The “more mature” beach goer. The 70s, 80s, and 90s set that comes down around 4 p.m. Chair and book in hand. Hat on and always a calm, content quiet demeanor and smile.  They seem to take it all in and appreciate the beauty of it all more than the younger set.

The Lifeguards. Despite long hours in the sun, and having to be always observant, they seem genuinely happy to watch over us. They catch a lot of flak from others who don’t understand their responsibilities, but for the many years my family has enjoyed the beaches, those guards have shown nothing but respect. I’m grateful they are there every day.

Parents/Grandparents who swim with their kids at any age for fun. It’s so nice to see families just engaging in fun and laughter in the waves. During our vacation, our extended family makes a pact that no one will leave the beach for the day without taking at least one dip in the ocean. It turns into a fun challenge every day!

I am so grateful for people that use sand anchors for their umbrellas!

Marion P.:

Readers. So engrossed in their book they don't make a sound.

Families who keep an eye on their children, and manage to control them without screaming.

I love eavesdropping on good conversationalists and/or people who are funny (no politics or religion).

People who make amazing sand castles/sculptures are fun to watch.

Walkers. They provide a continuous parade of people to watch.

Polite beachgoers. They acknowledge your presence, then let you alone.

See, folks? It's not all that difficult to embrace positivity!
