Two chances for some snow heading into next week

Those few flurries you see Saturday morning in Philadelphia and South Jersey won't amount to much, but there are a couple of chances for snow heading into next week.

As those flurries dissipate by noon Saturday, winds will strengthen and become a bit gusty, according to the National Weather Service. Winds out of the west will average between 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph through the afternoon. A high temperature of about 44 is forecast – within several degrees of normal – the wind will make it feel chillier.

Late Sunday into Monday morning, there is a chance for light snow that could impact the morning commute in the region, especially in South Jersey and Delaware. Any accumulation would likely measure less than an inch, forecasters said.

Another round of light precipitation is likely on Tuesday ahead of a cold front moving into the region. Snow is expected in the Poconos and north Jersey, with a mix of snow and rain likely farther south, in Philadelphia, the northern and western suburbs and South Jersey.

A high pressure system looks to arrive Wednesday, sweeping out any remaining rain showers to bring dry weather and seasonable temperatures on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, the weather service's 8-14 day outlook for the mid-Atlantic region suggests a 33-40 percent chance of temperatures below normal with a 40-50 percent chance of higher-than-normal precipitation.

And so as the calendar readies to flip to February, the region awaits its first significant snowfall of the season.
