Two dead in small plane crash near Brandywine Airport

Two PennDOT traffic cameras along Route 202, adjacent to the Brandywine Airport, in West Goshen show the wooded area where the small plane went down on Sunday.

Police reported on Sunday that a small plane crashed near the Brandywine Airport in Chester County, killing both people on board. 

Officials said that the crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. on the 1000-block of Saunders Ln. near the Brandywine Airport in West Goshen, NBC 10 reports. The piper had taken off from the Brandywine Airport a short time prior to crashing in a wooded area about two miles away.

Witnesses reportedly heard the engine stuttering before the plane crashed, at which point investigators say it went up in flames and sent smoke billowing skyward. 

The identities of the victims have not yet been released and no official cause of the crash has been named. The National Transportation and Safety Board is expected to assist local authorities in the investigation.
