Surveillance footage captures suspect who shot 7-11 store clerk on Thursday, February 4, 2016.

Police in Upper Darby are seeking help from the public to identify and locate a man who shot a 7-Eleven store clerk Thursday night during an attempted robbery, officials said.

According to authorities, the incident took place around 10 p.m. at the 7-Eleven on 639 Long Lane, where police found a store employee suffering from a gunshot wound after receiving a report of a robbery.

Surveillance video from the store shows the suspect entering the 7-Eleven from the direction of Guilford Road. He was described as a stocky, light-skinned black male wearing an olive green zip up jacket and gray camouflage pants. In a tweet Friday morning, Upper Darby police chief Michael Chitwood called the suspect an "urban terrorist," presumably in part because he wore a black cloth over the lower half of his face.

Investigators described the gun the suspect used as a black revolver and said he fled the 7-Eleven after shooting the clerk. He did not take anything with him from the store, police said.

The victim, who was shot in the thigh, was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

It's not clear whether the suspect left the scene on foot or in a vehicle. Before he left the view of the surveillance camera, he was seen crossing along the front of the store toward the alley of the 600 block of Copley Road.

Anyone with information about the incident and the suspect is asked to contact the Investigations Division at 610-734-7693.
