Waffles & Wedges to throw birthday block party

Find food trucks, free beer, music, specials

Waffles & Wedges will celebrate its birthday with a block party on Center City's Hicks Street.

To celebrate one year in business, Waffles & Wedges will host a block party April 24. South Hicks Street, located next to the restaurant at 1511 Pine Street, will be closed down for the event. Attendees will find food trucks, free beer, music and specials from 1-5 p.m.

Free ice cream from Bassets Ice Cream, free roasted coffee from Philly Fair Trade Roasters and free beer tastings from Broken Goblet Brewing, Neshaminy Creek Brewing and Philadelphia Brewing Company will be available. Free samples of wine from Ten Gallon Hat Winery will be available too.

Musicians from University of the Arts will also perform, and there will be raffles and prizes.

No birthday celebration is complete without cake, however, and Waffles & Wedges' party is no exception. The restaurant will put its own spin on celebratory treats and serve $1 mini Liège waffles with vanilla icing and rainbow jimmies during the block party. A special birthday menu will also be available.

Birthday menu items will include:

• The Birthday Waffle Sandwich (Liège waffle with Nutella, Bassetts vanilla ice cream and rainbow jimmies) for $8.

• Surf’n Turf Wedges (includes beef steak covered in Tipsy Cheese and topped with grilled Maryland crab meat) for $11.

• Gluten-Free Strawberry Mojito Heat (includes strawberries, mint, jalapenos and is infused with rum) for $7.

• Birthday Waffle Chic (Liège waffle with honey and BBQ pulled chicken, topped with pineapple jalapeno salsa) for $9.
