The 2016 Allentown Arts Fest will take place Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.

The Allentown Arts Fest returns on Sept. 30 for a full weekend of art, live entertainment and beer. Since its creation by The Alternative Gallery, many of the festival activities are quirkier than the average suburban art fest.

For starters, the acts on the three festival stages go beyond the typical easy-listening lineup:

•Main Stage - local bands
•Social Medium Stage - stand-up comedians, spoken word, underground theater shows and film screenings
•Tape Swap Radio Stage - performers from the local DIY music scene

The "Graffiti Jam" section will also be back, featuring breakdancing, DJs and graffiti artists creating art on the spot.

Other featured activities include skate park demonstrations and contests, a weekend-long songwriting camp for kids, on-site screenprinting press, 3D printer exhibit and yarnbombing exhibits. In total, there will be more than 300 artists in attendance at this year's Art Fest, either displaying or selling their work.

Those who enjoy a cold beer along with their dose of art will be happy to know plenty of craft beers will be available:

•Fegley's Hopsolutely
•Hijinx Wicked White
•Hijinx Kung Foo Gnome
•Saucony Creek Maple Mistress
•Sly Fox Octoberfest
•Sly Fox 360 IPA
•Frecon Brix
•Funk Tumbleweed

The festival is free to attend. Just pay-as-you-go when shopping, eating and drinking. Allentown Arts Fest will run from 4-11 p.m. Sept. 30, noon to 11 p.m. Oct. 1 and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 2.
