Will Smith reportedly producing 'Fresh Prince' reboot

Show in very early stages of production

Will Smith, aka Philadelphia's greatest living celebrity, may be the latest to play on America's growing obsession with nostalgia in television.

According to TVLine, Smith is working on a reboot of the hit '90s show "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." The new show is reportedly in the very early stages of production and is being developed by Smith's company Overbrook Entertainment.

Don't expect Smith to be playing an older version of the kid from West Philly, however. He's reportedly only serving as producer.

Here's more on the very rough plot from TVLine:

According to multiple sources, Smith’s production shingle, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a present-day "Fresh Prince" reboot that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series.

NBC, which aired the original show for its six-season run in the early '90s, has denied involvement.

If the show does come to fruition, it would follow a growing trend of reviving popular shows, including "Arrested Development" and "Full House."

Whether the new "Fresh Prince" will even scrape the surface of pop culture relevance that the original had remains to be seen, but just the news of its return should have you humming that famous theme song in your head all day. Cue the music...
