Ancient Rome was founded on April 21, 753 BC. To celebrate what will be its 2,768th birthday, the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology will host a day of Roman activities on April 18.

Visitors who long for days in the Coliseum can watch gladiators duke it out, try on their protective gear and reenact some battles. Experts will be on hand to give talks on relevant subjects and food and crafts will be available.

This event goes along with Penn Museum's gallery suite "Worlds Intertwined: Greeks, Romans and Etruscans." In the gallery visitors can check out thousands of Italian artifacts like coins and sculptures.

The day is also part of a PECO-sponsored series called "Unpacking the Past" in which School District of Philadelphia students can get themselves and their families in for free, for up to 500 visitors. All they need to do is bring in a report card or valid student ID.
