Plans for a 65-unit apartment complex on Main Street in Manayunk have been dashed after the Zoning Board of Adjustment denied a request for zoning changes, PlanPhilly reports.

The denial is a win for two neighborhood groups who opposed the project, saying that the two-building complex on 3811 Main St. would be too large and block neighbors' views.

"We've felt that the aesthetic of the neighborhood would be changed, and we fear our property values would go down," Dave Wilby, president of the Wissahickon Neighbors Civic Association, told PlanPhilly. He also said that the area is becoming too densely populated due to residential development, arguing that that commercial development is better.

The Manayunk Neighborhood Council also opposed the project, citing safety concerns over flooding. Main Street is often flooded, but a lawyer representing the project's owner argued that the buildings are safely located 40 to 80 feet away from the street.
