A 19th century Cape May trash truck that was left unattended by its driver rolled backward and crashed into a home near the beach on Monday, firefighters said. The Elward House, a yellow rental property on Decatur Avenue, had a support column struck.

An off-duty police officer shot and killed a pit bull in Southwest Philadelphia on Tuesday morning while it was attacking a 52-year-old woman. The dog was one of three pit bulls that attacked the woman, who was treated for injuries to her arm, leg and head.
