Authorities in Newtown Township announced charges Thursday against a high school teacher who allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.
Jesse Vincent Oberto, a teacher at Council Rock High School, drew the attention of investigators after police received a Childline referral from the Bucks County Children & Youth social services agency.
An investigation revealed that Oberto, 37, allegedly had a sexual relationship and nappropriate communications with the student in 2015 and 2016.
Oberto was arrested Thursday and charged with institutional sexual assault and related charges. Bail was set at $100,000 unsecured.
