Evans to challenge Fattah in Democratic primary

Longtime state representative among four challengers

State Rep. Dwight Evans said he will challenge U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, who is under federal indictment, in the Democratic primary next spring.

Evans, the longtime representative of the 203rd Legislative District, told the Philadelphia Inquirer on Monday that he will not seek a 19th term in Harrisburg, but instead will enter a race that already has three challengers.

Fattah has pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering, bank fraud, bribery and money laundering.

State Rep. Brian Sims, Ninth Ward Leader Dan Muroff and Lower Merion Township Commissioner Brian Gordon also are challenging Fattah.
