Ex-Deptford cop sentenced to 30 years for friend's death

James Stuart, 31, was found guilty of one count of murder and one of aggravated manslaughter in October

Former Deptford Township police officer James Stuart was sentenced to 30 years behind bars Friday for the killing of his friend, the Courier-Post reports. 

According to the Courier-Post, Stuart, 31, was found guilty of one count of murder and one of aggravated manslaughter in October related to the death of David Compton, 27.

Reports claim the incident took place in January 2013 in Stuart's Deptford Township home during which time Compton, of Woodbury, Gloucester County, was shot in the cheek.

Compton died of his injuries in the hospital several days later, the Courier-Post reports.

Stuart will be authorized to serve 30 years on the murder conviction to be eligible for parole.
