Baby Jives Co., which creates imaginative mobiles, is up for an American Made award.
Four Philadelphia-area businesses say that they exemplify American-made craftsmanship, and they'll get $10,000 if enough of their fans vote for them.
Voting starts Monday for Martha Stewart's American Made competition, which seeks to support "entrepreneurs, artisans, and small-business owners who are creating beautiful, inspiring, useful products" using only materials found in the United States.
A panel of judges will grant awards in the categories of crafts, design, food and style, but only one business can win the Audience Choice Award and the $10,000 prize that goes with it.
The Philly-area finalists range from a mom who makes fantastical baby mobiles to a health maven who stirs together all-natural deodorant cream.
Competing in the style category are PiperWai and children's boutique Mason Dixon Made. PiperWai started blending together all-natural deodorant creams at the Greensgrow community kitchen in Fishtown. Meanwhile, shoe designer Heather Holiday works out of her Philadelphia row home to transform leather into bespoke baby booties.
"Sometimes I cut on our dining room table," admits Holiday.
In the crafts category is Baby Jives Co., where mom Jahje Ives creates delightfully original mobiles "inspired by the magic of childhood." The design category includes Wren & Cooper, minimalist furniture designers based in Buckingham, Bucks County.
Fans can vote up to six times at day until Oct. 19 at marthastewart.com/americanmade. The winner will be announced on Oct. 23.
