A man who allegedly roughed up an elderly couple in New York City earlier this month has been apprehended in Cherry Hill, authorities announced Friday.

The Camden County Sheriff’s office said Darren Payne, 25, was arrested after being notified by the NYPD that the suspect was in the Cherry Hill area.

Payne allegedly beat up a man, 70, and woman, 69, in the East Harlem section of New York. Payne is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility and will be extradited back to New York.

The couple were treated for minor injuries after the attack and released, according to the New York Post.

The incident followed two other attacks on elderly people in New York, including a 75-year-old woman who was robbed and pushed to the ground on a subway train and a 91-year-old man who was struck with a cane by a 19-year-old passing him on the sidewalk.
