Mega-Bad Movie Night at Bryn Mawr Film Institute

The popular Academy of Natural Sciences event heads to the Main Line

Once a month, the Academy of Natural Sciences holds Mega-Bad Movie Night, where it plays a hilariously terrible science-fiction film to watch and laugh about. This month, the Academy is going on tour and hosting a screening of "Them!" at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute Thursday, Jan. 29.

"Them!" is a 1954 film featuring award-winning actor James Whitmore fighting a group of giant, irradiated ants threatening to take over Los Angeles. Scientists will be on hand to provide funny commentary about the movie's "science," like the "nuclear monsters" that often populated mid-century sci-fi films.

Before the film, you'll meet live bugs and have the chance to try "bug cuisine." If you're not really into eating insects, there also will be free popcorn and Yards Brewery beer on hand.
