Police: South Jersey arsonist admits setting 20 fires in two years

62-year-old Winslow Township resident caught setting brush ablaze, police say

Police in Winslow Township say a man caught setting a fire on the side of the road has admitted starting about two dozen others.

Authorities announced Wednesday the arrest of Dennis Casario, 62, of Winslow Township, after he was allegedly caught lighting a brush fire off Beebetown Road.

Fire officials set up a surveillance program in the area Tuesday after numerous forest fires were intentionally set in the area.

Casario was caught starting the blaze, and after the fire was extinguished officers went to his home and brought him into headquarters where he was extensively questioned, police said.

During the interviews, Casario admitted lighting more than 20 fires over the last two years, police said.

Casario has been charged with arson; he has been jailed in default of a $75,000 cash bail. Additional arson charges are pending for fires allegedly set in previous years.
