Police: Worker trapped underground dies in North Philly accident

A man who became trapped under rubble at a North Philadelphia construction site Thursday morning has reportedly died after an intensive rescue effort, according to NBC10. 

Police said a trench collapsed on three men who who were working at a private Oak Lane residence in the 100 block of W. Walnut Park Drive. 

The laborers were working underground when a combination of dirt and concrete fell into their work area.

Two of the men were able to escape the hole. The third man was left trapped, prompting more than 100 people to assist in the rescue operation. 

The identity of the worker was not immediately known.
