Popular Philly lunch spot goes cash-free

You can also make transactions using its app

Sweetgreen, a casual chain restaurant that’s popular with city lunch patrons, has gone cash-free.

In other words, the restaurant will only accept transactions using a credit or debit card or using the Sweetgreen app.

This policy will take effect at Sweetgreen locations across the United States (with the exception of those in Massachusetts), and there are several in the Philadelphia area, including in Rittenhouse, Washington Square West and University City, as well as locations in Ardmore and King of Prussia.

Sweetgreen co-founder Jonathan Neman told Fast Company that there are several reasons for going cash-free, including the potential for faster transactions, better hygiene for workers handling both food and money and a reduced risk of robberies.
