Pregnant woman, young child dead after early morning blaze in Fairhill

Six others, including four children, are being treated for injuries

A pregnant mother and her young child were found dead in an embrace following a fire in a Fairhill row house early Friday, 6ABC reports.

According to 6ABC, officials said the pregnant woman had initially escaped the blaze but went back into the burning home for her young child. They were found in a second-story bedroom, officials said.

The fire reportedly broke out at around 4 a.m. Friday on the 2800 block of N. Fourth St.

The mother and child were pronounced dead at the scene.

Six others who were inside the home when the fire broke out, including four minors, managed to escape and were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries, 6ABC said.

There is no immediate word on what started the fire, and an investigation is underway.

Officials told 6ABC a preliminary investigation found that there appeared to be at least five portable heaters in the home and no signs of working fire alarms.
