Tioga-Nicetown drive-by shooting ends in car crash, 27 shots fired

Investigators believe shooting occurred after argument at another location

Philadelphia police are investigating after a drive-by shooting in the Tioga-Nicetown section of the city resulted in a car crash Sunday morning.

Authorities say the shooting occurred around 3:45 a.m. on North 17th street as a 28-year-old male driver traveled toward Erie Avenue, 6 ABC reports. A second vehicle with at least two male occupants drove head on toward the first car and began to open fire, according to police.

The car under pursuit managed to reverse back up North 17th Street before crashing into a parked car, injuring the driver. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

At the scene, investigators counted 27 shell casings near the corner of 17th Street and Erie Avenue.

Authorities believe the incident was provoked by an argument between those involved at a separate location.

Police have not made any arrests.
