Two women arrested after leaving baby in hot car in Bensalem

Two women were arrested after a baby was rescued from a hot car in a Bensalem parking lot, according to media reports.

Police were alerted on Sunday around 3:30 p.m. when a witness noticed a 1-year-old baby was left alone inside a car outside a Target store on Rockhill Drive, 6ABC reports.

Authorities said an off-duty Philadelphia police officer was in the parking lot and used a tool to gain access to the vehicle.

According to NBC10, the child was left alone inside the vehicle for 14 minutes before being rescued. The car's temperature reached 115.4 degrees.

The child's aunt and grandmother allegedly told police they forgot the child was in the backseat. They were both arrested at the scene.

The child's mother was called to the scene before the child was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

The aunt and grandmother were charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
