Reading Terminal Market will soon be welcoming another savory delight to its roster of novelties: corn dogs, made-to-order.
The carnivalesque Fox & Son Fancy Corn Dogs plans to enter Center City's treasured bazaar next spring with poutine, squeaky cheese curds, fries and a raft of other seasonal fair items to go with the corn dogs. That includes vegan and gluten-free options.
Owners Rebecca Foxman, Ezekial Ferguson and Kevin Kwan plan to get creative with the corn dog menu, so you can expect much better than the freezer-burnt State Fair variety with some kind of popsicle goop on the box in your freezer. These are legitimate corn-dog makers with the chops to get inventive with their deli meats and condiments.
The storefront design comes courtesy of Brewerytown's Loubier Design, which is behind such local heavyweights as Honey's Sit 'N Eat, Fishtown's Asian BYO Stock and Soup Kitchen.
Ingredients will be locally and morally sourced, according to the owners. Here's a look below at the pre-construction demo and an oil-painted ode to the corn dog, whose roots stretch back to the adaptation of German immigrants settled in Texas during the 1920's.
