Elderly man in Montgomery County dies while shoveling snow

Officials urge residents to check in on elderly relatives and friends

Officials in Montgomery County announced Saturday evening that an elderly man in Lower Providence Township died in the blizzard while shoveling snow. 

According to NBC 10, county commissioners made the announcement during a conference call and urged residents to check in on the safety of elderly relatives and friends. 

The identity of the victim and the exact cause of his death were not released. 

Montgomery County commissioners authorized a declaration of disaster emergency that will remain in effect until 10 a.m Sunday. A Code Blue alert will remain in effect through 9 a.m. on Monday. 

The county will continue to work with PECO and municipal public works departments to prioritize road reopenings in the event of downed power lines and trees.
