On Monday morning, areas in South Jersey that had been within the winter weather advisory had received just a coating of snow from the storm that had moved up the coast Sunday night.
In a short-term forecast issued just before 7 a.m., the National Weather Service office in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, said the rate of snowfall would decrease as 9 a.m. approached
The advisory, which also covered Delaware and the eastern shore of Maryland, had called for 3-4 inches of snow to fall overnight into Monday.
A low pressure system is expected in the region on Tuesday, and will likely bring more precipitation – snow at the beginning and then probably mixing with rain, and eventually to all rain from south to north during the late morning and early afternoon hours.
That swichover to rain, however, is not predicted to happen in the Poconos and northwestern New Jersey, forecasters said.
Current weather models suggest an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches of snow in the Poconos and far northern New Jersey with decreasing amounts to the south.
Temperatures should be close to normal from Monday night to Saturday.
