Playing behind their latest album — “Love You to Death,” released in June — twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin delivered an emotionally direct and memorable 24-song set at the Fillmore last night.

Opening with the brilliant “Back in Your Head,” the duo had the audience dancing, bopping their heads and singing along. The set pulled from Tegan and Sara’s whole career, but their newest songs offered plenty of highlights, most notably the delectable earworm “Boyfriend.”

With the presidential election less than a week away, it was oddly refreshing to hear artists, even if they are from Canada, actually discuss politics on stage. Many performers I’ve seen recently chose not to address the issue. Sara brandished a Clinton and Kaine sticker and encouraged the crowd to do its part to stop Trump.

The sisters were talkative on many fronts, including their first show in Philly ( at The Fire in 2002), and willing to engage with fans. After being handed a plush giraffe from an audience member, Tegan walked around with it during several songs.

Playing behind her masterful 2015 work “Sprinter,” Torres’ opening set featured the great guitar work and vocal introspection that she always delivers. Now with a little more St. Vincent-style drama in the mix, Torres is still evolving. I cannot wait to hear what is next from her.
