Temple University's online MBA program was ranked fifth in the world by The Princeton Review, which released its first annual ranking of business schools (or b-schools) offering the best online MBA programs on Tuesday.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School claimed the first spot on the top 25 list, followed by Indiana University-Bloomington's Kelley School of Business and the IE Business School in Madrid.

Temple's Fox School of Business came in at No. 5.

At Temple University’s Fox School of Business online MBA program, students customize their own school schedule: online MBAs choose one of several start dates throughout the year, then concentrate on one four-week course at a time. Students don’t feel they compromise quality in choosing Temple’s “strong, innovative” online curricula: “It was one of the few online programs that had the exact same requirements as the ‘regular’ program.”

The list of the top 25 schools is based on both surveys of administrators at the schools and of students attending the online programs, making it the first of its kind.

"Each of our top 25 schools offers a first-rate MBA online as well as on campus," Robert Franek, senior vice president-publisher of The Princeton Review, said in a statement. "Like highly-successful businesses, these highly-respected b-schools are serving their customers with innovative options. For working professionals unable to move to a 'brick and mortar' campus for an MBA, these schools offer an opportunity to learn from some of the world's best b-school professors and earn the degree from anywhere in the world."

According to the surveys, 93 percent of students reported they were "very" or "extremely" satisfied with their school choice, while 94 percent believed obtaining the online MBA would have an impact on their career.
