Man on motorized scooter killed in hit-and-run in Port Richmond

An investigation is underway

A 35-year-old man driving a motorized scooter was killed in a hit-and-run involving an SUV on Wednesday night in Port Richmond, Philadelphia police told NBC10.

Police told NBC10 the driver of the SUV, thought to be a Pontiac Aztec with New York tags, drove off after striking the victim and dragging him about 200 feet.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. along Lehigh Avenue near Aramingo Avenue.

The victim reportedly sustained multiple head and torso injuries and died at Hahnemann Hospital, NBC10 reports.

Investigators discovered the suspected SUV nearly two hours later about 1 mile from the crash scene, and, as of Thursday morning, were awaiting a search warrant for the vehicle and the suspect's home.
