Dates for 'The Nutcracker' announced

Plus, first sensory-friendly performance on the main stage to take place

Behind the scenes of Pennsylvania Ballet's 'Nutcracker.'

Watching the Pennsylvania Ballet perform "The Nutcracker" is a holiday tradition for many Philadelphians. Those who love the performance will be excited to know that dates for the ballet have been announced. From Dec. 9 through Dec. 31, "The Nutcracker" will run at the Academy of Music. Tickets are now available.

“To be part of the holidays in Philadelphia is magical; each year we look forward to bringing families together to enjoy the arts and make dreams come true,” artistic director Angel Corella shared in a press release.

Soon, Philadelphians will be in the midst of battles between soldiers and mice, snow and the Land of Sweets, alongside Marie and her Prince.

The performances at The Academy of Music will run: 

• Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. 
• Saturday, Dec. 10, at 5 p.m.
• Sunday, Dec. 11, at noon
• Sunday, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m.
• Friday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. 
• Friday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Dec. 17, at noon
• Saturday, Dec. 17, at 5 p.m.
• Sunday, Dec. 18, at noon
• Sunday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m.
• Thursday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m.

On Dec. 22 at 11 a.m., there will be a sensory-friendly performance. The Pennsylvania Ballet's press release states:

In partnership with Art ReachPennsylvania Ballet will offer a theater experience focused on providing a relaxed atmosphere that is welcoming and inclusive of children and families with a wide range of sensory, learning and communication differences, including autism spectrum.

It is the first resident company of the Kimmel Center to provide a sensory-friendly performance on the main stage of the Academy of Music. There will be space to move around, permission to speak during the performance and other accommodations.
