The Eagles are officially a disaster

By the fourth quarter Sunday, most Eagles fans had seen enough.

Usually in this section, I write instant observations and break down the game into “good, bad, and ugly” sections. After a 45-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, that hardly seems necessary. What’s the point? Almost everything we saw from Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia Eagles Sunday was ugly, and if it wasn’t, it was even worse that.

Pretty much everyone thought the Eagles would be good before the season, myself included. Turns out we were very wrong. Objectively, they are an unevenly constructed football team severely lacking talent on offense that consistently appears poorly coached in every facet of the game. As I’m typing this, Miles Austin just dropped an easy pass with the team down 38-14. The Eagles defense, which has been a bright spot all season, was shredded by promising rookie Jameis Winston to the tune of five touchdown passes.

No, the Eagles currently might not be quite as bad as the other three pro teams in town, but their future could be the most uncertain (with the Sixers as a possible exception). From now until the end of the season, there will be a ton of speculation surrounding Kelly. Even if he does stick around, what confidence could we possibly have in him cleaning this mess up?

The Eagles are somehow only one game out of the division, a sign of how poor the NFC East truly is, but that doesn’t matter. What we saw today looked exactly like the 2012 season, Andy Reid’s 14th and final one in Philadelphia.

Next up is the Detroit Lions in four days on Thanksgiving.
