The A+E Networks announced last week that Hart is slated to executive produce and star in a two-hour History channel special, “Kevin Hart Presents: The Black Man’s Guide to History,” that will feature a series of re-enactments focusing on significant black figures and events.
“Kevin is an extraordinary performer with a real appreciation for history,” said Paul Cabana, executive vice president and head of programming at History. “Only he could bring these true stories to life in such an entertaining way. We’re thrilled to be working with him.”
The 2017 special, produced by Hartbeat Productions and Comedy Dynamics, will unfold from a scene in which Hart finds his daughter struggling after seeing the depiction of slavery and oppression in the Oscar-winning 2-13 film "12 Years A Slave."
From there, Hart teachers his daughter about black history, revisiting Matthew Henson's overlooked trip to the North Pole, Robert Smalls' revolt on a Confederate warship and Mae Jamison's emergence as the first black female astronaut, among other lessons.
“I’m very excited to be working with HISTORY on this show because not only is it entertaining, and it’s hysterical, but it also is an important program for our country right now. We hope to make people laugh and learn a bit too," said Hart.
A premiere date has not yet been set for the special, but the network said it will air at some point in the coming year.
