Pennsylvania woman helps homeless children celebrate birthdays by throwing free parties

A Pennsylvania woman is getting some national recognition for an organization she spearheaded that helps disadvantaged children make their birthdays extra special.

Megan Yunn, of Pittsburgh, started "Beverly's Birthdays" in 2012 after a 12-year-old girl named Beverly told Yunn that she's never had a birthday party or slice birthday cake, Yunn told People magazine this week.

Beverly's Birthdays has grown greatly since its inception, and now holds 120 group birthday parties a year for homeless youth in the Pittsburgh area with the help of other local agencies and businesses who donate cakes, favors, gifts and more, according to the magazine.

The organization celebrated its own birthday this past week.

"We believe in spreading birthday cheer 365 days a year because fundamentally, every person regardless of personal or financial circumstances deserves to have a very happy birthday," Yunn said in a video marking the occassion.
