Philadelphia police officer pursuing suspect struck by patrol car

Officer taken to Penn Presbyterian hospital for treatment

A Philadelphia police officer was struck by a patrol car on Friday afternoon as authorities were pursuing a suspect in West Philadelphia.

According to authorities, the 18th District officer, who has not been identified, was struck around 1:40 p.m. on the 5500 block of Pines Street, not far from the 18th Police District station, NBC 10 reports.

The officer was in the midst of pursuing a suspect on foot when he was struck by a police car, officials said.

After the incident, the officer was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was treated for a leg injury. He was listed in stable condition.

Investigators said police were able to arrest the fleeing suspect. The nature of the crime was not revealed.
