Santigold (aka Santi White)

Before she became a rap/electro/pop star, Santigold (nee Santogold, nee Santi White) was a Philly punk with deep ties to the city. Dig up some music by her old rock band Stiffed, if you can find it. Anyway, that’s all trivia since she moved to New York to make music with the likes of Diplo, Karen O, Christina Aguilera and many more and fire off hits like “L.E.S. Artistes” and “Disparate Youth.” Santigold’s most recent record, *99¢ (released in February) is another batch of memorable tracks with hot hooks, like “Can’t Get Enough of Myself” and “Chasing Shadows.” Don’t bother yelling for a Stiffed song when her "We Buy Gold" tour stops by the TLA on May 1 — you’re chasing shadows.
