Philadelphia police reported a suspicious device was found at the College of Engineering building, at 12th and Norris streets, on Temple University's campus on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017.

A suspicious device containing exposed wires was found at a loading dock of a Temple University building on Tuesday morning, according to Philadelphia police.

The device was found inside a wrapped package around 9:02 a.m. at the College of Engineering building at 12th and Norris streets. A second suspicious package was recovered inside a trash truck parked outside the loading dock.

The bomb squad had cleared the area by 10:30 a.m., Temple spokesman Brandon Lausch said. One of the packages was detonated as a precaution.

The university's housekeeping staff found one of the packages, Lausch said. Police from both Philadelphia and Temple University responded.

More than 300 students were evacuated from the engineering building.

Temple sent a text message alert to students and posted the following tweet to its Twitter account.
