‘The Simpsons’ pokes fun at the Sixers

I haven’t watched “The Simpsons” in a long time, but at one point during my life, FOX on Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. was appointment television.

One of my all-time favorite episodes in the long-running series is “You Only Move Twice,” which ends with a sports gag: Homer’s former boss/criminal mastermind, Hank Scorpio, gives him the inept Denver Broncos as a sort of going away present. Homer, who dreamed of owning the Dallas Cowboys, isn’t too pleased with his gift:

Fast forward a couple of decades and it seems that the show has moved onto basketball. Their target? None other than your Philadelphia 76ers (via Brandon Gowton):

The Broncos won the Super Bowl a little over a year after “You Only Move Twice” originally aired, so when Joel Embiid is hoisting the 2017 NBA Finals MVP trophy, you’ll know who to thank.
