Temple University football players Haason Reddick (left) and Dion Dawkins (right) were charged with assault late Monday night.

Two Temple University football players were charged with assault late Monday night after surrendering to police in connection with an off-campus incident that occurred earlier this year.

Police say an altercation took place on Jan. 18 at approximately 1:30 a.m., during an off-campus party at Club 1800 in Northern Liberties.

A 21-year-old male complainant said he observed his friend, also a 21-year-old man, being attacked by several members of the Temple football team and that as he tried to pull his friend away, he was kicked in the right eye, police said. He claimed other people, including junior offensive lineman Dion Dawkins, were holding him back.

The man was treated for a fractured right orbital bone at Jefferson Hospital, according to police.

All parties know each other and attend Temple University, police said.

Dawkins and junior defensive lineman Haason Reddick are charged with aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Both Dawkins, 20, and Reddick, 20, posted bail early Tuesday morning and are scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on March 31.

Temple University has suspended the two players from the team and released the following statement:

Temple University is aware of allegations of improper conduct by two of its student-athletes at an off-campus location in January. The university has, and will continue, to fully cooperate with the Philadelphia Police Department in its investigation and will take appropriate actions outlined in the Student Conduct Code. The two students have been suspended from football team activities pending further investigation.
