Spirited Tattooing Coalition opened its doors on March 13, 2015.

For all those with ink, and for all who are still on the fence, a new tattoo shop and art gallery opened this month on Baltimore Avenue.

Spirited Tattooing Coalition, run by Jasmine Morrell, is "the first queer-owned tattoo shop in Philadelphia," according to an IndieGoGo site explaining the vision for the space at 4918 Baltimore Avenue.

The tattoo industry can be a very unfriendly and unwelcoming environment for folks outside of certain societal structures and systems. As a queer person of color, I have found myself in positions of either being the target of or being around so much misogyny, racism, transphobia, fatphobia and classism that it’s time to make space away from all that.

The coalition invites marginalized voices from West Philadelphia and around the world to treat the space as a sanctuary for expression and community.

Visit the site for a look at some of the coalition's tattoos and artwork.
