Haddonfield is a small town in South Jersey with old-fashioned charms hidden around every corner. If you love the look of an old Victorian town with unique, boutique shops, then make this historic town your next destination! The Main Street of Haddonfield has all different varieties of shops and food you won’t find anywhere else.

Here are five places you shouldn’t miss when you visit:

Indian King Tavern Museum

If you’re a history buff, you’ll love the Indian King Tavern Museum. Built more than 270 years ago, it marks the exact place where New Jersey became a state of its own. And before it was a museum, it was — you guessed it — a tavern! It was commonly used by travelers who were on their way to Philadelphia, Delaware and other places in New Jersey. It’s also the first historic building the State of New Jersey used as the site of a museum in 1903. So history enthusiasts unite here — and come indulge in a little bit of New Jersey history!

The British Chip Shop

Are you looking for a taste of another culture — specifically the British culture? You can find it at The British Chip Shop. Located right in historic downtown Haddonfield, this restaurant has every dish to fulfill your English food desires. You’ll feel like you’ve died and gone to England with authentic dishes like the ever-famous fish and chips; Welsh Rarebit that includes English ale, Irish cheddar sauce, and dressed greens; and Bacon Crisps, featuring bacon-flavored potato chips.

The British Chip Shop is open for lunch and dinner, and even Sunday brunch. And this restaurant doesn’t just stop at the food — there are special events too! From Harry Potter Trivia to a Dickens Christmas Roast, this place is your number one stop for a blast of British culture.

Haddy the Hadrosaurus

Have you ever heard of a dinosaur called the Hadrosaurus? Believe it or not, this dinosaur -- its full name the Hadrosaurus foulkii -- was discovered right in Haddonfield. But it gets even better – it was the first complete dinosaur skeleton discovered in the entire world! A very popular sculpture of this dinosaur named Haddy currently acts as the “central landmark of downtown Haddonfield” and a commemoration of the discovery. Go see it in person — your kids will love this lifelike, 8-foot-tall statue!

Hopkins Pond

Need an escape from city life? Haddonfield is home to Hopkins Pond — a place that encompasses all the beauty of nature. With a Natural History Tree trail that’s a little more than a half mile, as well as a trail that takes you around the whole pond, you’ll definitely feel at ease in this peaceful environment. The pond also offers a bird sanctuary, and even fishing — which is perfect if you’re thinking of bringing the kids along. The pond is located right off of Grove Street, and can be found on either side of Hopkins Lane.

Tree Lighting Ceremony & Santa Parade

Looking for an exciting holiday outing for your family? Every year, Haddonfield hosts a tree lighting ceremony and Santa parade. The evening begins when the mayor and some special guests come out to speak, and then songs are sung and money is collected for charities. The real fun starts when the tree at the library is lit, and the marching band and Santa Claus lead all of the kids into town! This event makes for a one-of-a-kind night that your children will remember for years. The annual ceremony will be held on November 25 at 6:30 p.m. – don’t miss it!

These are only a few of the places and events you can find in historic Haddonfield. Stop by soon for a day full of history, excellent food, nature and quality time spent with your family and friends.
