Amazon is looking to add hundreds of new jobs in New Jersey by opening two new "fulfillment centers" in the area.
The company announced Wednesday its planned expansion with locations in Florence, Burlington County, and Carteret, which is located on the northern tip of the state. The facility in Carteret will be Amazon's second in the borough.
Amazon said it already employs 5,500 full-time workers in the state and plans to add 2,000 more, with 500 in Florence and 1,500 in Carteret.
"Fulfillment centers" are where Amazon stores and distributes its products.
The new facilities show a commitment to the two towns as an investment in the communities, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno said in a statement.
Rutgers professor and economist Joseph Seneca told NewsWorks the open positions will be welcome by a state still recovering from the Great Recession.
