Chef, storyteller Anthony Bourdain found dead at 61

Acclaimed chef, author and television host Anthony Bourdain has died at age 61, according to multiple media reports.

CNN, which hosted Bourdain's popular show "Parts Unknown," first reported the news. According to the network, Bourdain was found unresponsive in his France hotel room Friday morning by fellow chef and onetime Philly restaurant owner Eric Ripert.

Bourdain was in the country filming an episode of the show. The cause of death was suicide, according to CNN.

CNN released the following statement:

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

Bourdain's culinary adventures brought him to many places across the globe, including right here in the Philadelphia area, where he found his favorite cheesesteak at Donkey's Place in Camden and dined on pierogies and Yuengling in Pennsylvania.

Health experts have warned that suicide is an increasing issue in the United States. A recent survey from the CDC found that suicide rates have gone up 30 percent in half of the states since 1999.
