Police are seeking the public's help in finding a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted robbery at a Family Dollar in North Philadelphia.

In surveillance video released by police Thursday, an unknown male suspect can be seen entering the Family Dollar at 1925 W. Allegheny Ave. in Glenwood on Tuesday at 3:40 p.m.

According to police, the video shows the suspect pulling a handgun and a plastic bag from his pockets and handing the bag to a female employee.

Police said he demanded that the 19-year-old open the register and place the cash inside the bag. When the employee was unable to open the cash register, police said the suspect unsuccessfully attempted to open it himself. He became agitated and began to slap and pull the employee’s hair, police said.

He then reportedly fled the store in an unknown direction.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 170 pounds, with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black mask covering his face, black jogging pants and white sneakers.
