Authorities charge man shot by police officer during traffic stop in Haddon Township

A man who was shot by a police officer during a traffic stop allegedly had a gun at the time of the shooting, authorities announced Wednesday.

Edmond Brown, Jr., 38, has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by certain persons, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.

The incident occurred Oct. 29 around 9:40 a.m. on North Route 130 near Alabama Road in Haddon Township.

Police allege Brown was operating a vehicle when an officer initiated a traffic stop. When the officer tried to identify the driver, Brown drove away and crashed into a parked car.

A "brief struggle" ensued between Brown and the officer, who shot Brown once in a "lower extremity." Brown was taken to Cooper Medical Center where he was treated while under arrest.

Brown was previously charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and eluding, assault by automobile, driving in an aggressive manner and violating probation, NJ.com reports.

The officer was been placed on administrative leave and the investigation is ongoing.
