Blatstein set to buy AC's Showboat Casino

Would be Philly developer's second purchase in struggling shore town

Philadelphia real estate developer Bart Blatstein is set to buy the closed Showboat Casino in Atlantic City.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports that Blatstein, who is responsible for the Piazza in Northern Liberties, has purchased the casino.

Blatstein has already dipped his feet into the waters of redevelopment in the struggling shore town. His aggressive plan to overhaul the also closed Piers Shops at Caesars was announced this year after he purchased the property.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the purchase was made from New Jersey's Stockton University, which originally planned to expand its campus with the vacant casino property, but legal and political woes stalled the development.

The details of the purchase, and what Blatstein plans to do with the property, remain unclear.
