Brothers in A.C.'s 'Dirty Block' gang convicted on drug charges

Prosecutors say siblings were part of heroin distribution ring

Two brothers who were members of an Atlantic City gang were convicted on drug-related charges Tuesday, according to prosecutors.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said that Mykal Derry, 35, and Malik Derry, 25, were found guilty by a jury on several counts related to the distribution of heroin as members of the "Dirty Block" gang that operated a drug ring in the shore town.

According to authorities, the siblings participated in drug trafficking which employed gun violence, leading to at least one homicide and several other shootings.

Prosecutors said Malik carried a firearm and acted as an "enforcer" for the gang while Mykal led the group's heroin distribution, supplying the drug to gang members to sell to customers in the Atlantic City area.

Both were convicted on counts of conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and possessing and discharging firearms in furtherance of the conspiracy, each of which carries maximum potential sentences of life and 10 years in prison, respectively.

The jury deliberated about seven hours before returning the verdicts.

Mykal's sentencing is set for Dec. 1, while Malik's is set for the day after.
