Buckminster's in Point Breeze to close

Bye bye, Buckminster's

Seven months after opening, one of Point Breeze's most adventurous restaurants, the seasonal-ingredients-inspired Buckminster's, will close June 11.

Owner Michael Pasquarello, who also runs Cafe Lift and Kensington Quarters, offered this statement in response to the closing:

It’s with deep regret that I share tomorrow, Saturday, June 11, will be the last night of service at Buckminster’s. It was an extremely tough decision, but one that had to be made no matter how much we hoped and worked to thrive here. We’re proud of what we set out to accomplish in this great neighborhood. I’m extremely grateful for all the hardwork from our dedicated team, especially Chef Rob Marzinsky, and they’ll always have a place within our restaurant group, should they want it. Chef Marzinsky is one of the most talented and driven chefs I know, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to work with him.

We sincerely thank all our friends, family, neighbors and fans who ate and drank with us over the last six months — your support is deeply appreciated.

Buckminster's joined American Sardine Bar in the immediate area in November and quickly attempted to carve out space for itself among neighbors by having beer and curry specials on Sundays and a late-night happy hour through the week. Ultimately, despite a few menu switch-ups, the business just didn't pan out.

All the same, it doesn't look to be a total dead end for full-service restaurants in the Breeze. On Point, another bistro, will reportedly join the neighborhood this fall at the location of the former Breezy's Cafe. Fingers are crossed that it faces a better fate than Buckminster's.
