Camden County man arrested in Va., charged in wife's murder

Mario Flores, 33, allegedly killed his wife before driving to Virginia

Prosecutors in Camden County have arrested and a charged a Stratford man who allegedly shot his wife to death early Saturday morning before fleeing to Virgina, officials announced.

Stratford police responded to the couple's home on the unit block of Wright Avenue at approximately 1:32 a.m. Saturday after a receiving a request for a well-being check. At the scene, officers found that 35-year-old Roxanne Flores had been fatally shot in her bedroom.

Prior to the discovery, a police sergeant on patrol observed a blue Nissan leave the residence at around 12:50 a.m. and head eastbound to Route 30. It was later determined that the vehicle belonged to 33-year-old Mario Flores.

Family members told detectives that that Mario Flores had dropped off his young daughter at the home of a relative in Lindenwold around 1 a.m. Witnesses provided statements claiming that Mario and Roxanne Flores were having marital problems and had allegedly been involved in an incident with a handgun.

Investigators later received a tip that Flores was in the area of Alexandria, Va. and notified local authorities to be on watch for him. At around 8 a.m., Alexandria City Police conducted a vehicle stop and detained him.

Mario Flores is charged with first-degree murder and is being held in Virginia pending his extradition to New Jersey.
