Police: Car taking Millville shooting victim to hospital runs out of gas

The family of a Millville man who was shot twice on Wednesday evening attempted to take his rescue into their own hands, except they forgot to check the gas meter before rushing him to the hospital, NJ.com reports.

Police in Millville, New Jersey, were dispatched to the scene of a reported shooting around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, only to find that the victim was nowhere to be found. According to Lt. Jody Farabella of the Millville Police Department, 23-year-old Tyrone Hanby was shot once in the abdomen and once in the hand.

When police learned that the family's vehicle had stalled out, they drove out looking for them on Route 55. Hanby was eventually transported by authorities the rest of the way to Inspira Medical Center Vineland before being airlifted AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

Police said the shooting does not appear to be gang related and is currently under investigation by the Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office. Hanby remains in stable condition.
