Philadelphia officials and residents turned out this weekend for cleanup projects throughout the city.

Saturday marked the 10th annual Philly Spring Cleanup, organized by the city's Streets Department to spruce up recreation centers, parks, sidewalks and other public areas. The event kicked off at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to run until 2 p.m.

Armed with trash bags, gloves, brooms and shovels, volunteers tried their best to spruce up the City of Brotherly Love.

This year, nearly 15,000 people signed up to participate in more than 700 projects to clean up neighborhoods, the Streets Department said.

In 2016, more than 600,000 pounds of trash was collected during last year's event.
